Today being the 8th day of March, 2020, is a day set aside to celebrate the strength and beauty of women globally. In my view, women should be celebrated every day, for without them there would be no nation. As such, I Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu join the many voices to appreciate them, and specifically, I doff my hat for Edo Women; who from ancient history have always stood out as builders, entrepreneurs, leaders and administrators. In tune with the Sustainable Development Goals agenda, the theme for this year’s event is “Each for Equal”, re-emphasizing the fact that an equal world is an enabled world.
As an individual, I believe that every woman should be respected and valued for her contributions. She must be supported to actively challenge stereotypes, fight biases, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate her fellow women’s achievements.
Indeed, it is not only a “women’s issue”, it’s also a “sustainable development issue”. It is essential for economies and communities to thrive and the world can be healthier, wealthier and more harmonious.
The SIMPLE Agenda recognizes the promotion of gender equality and women’s rights by engendering Sustainable Development Goals agenda that is capable of eradicating gender-based violence even as we shall continue to encourage the participation of women in all aspects of decision-making.To all mothers, wives, sisters, friends, who give their all on a daily basis in their homes, the market places, offices, schools, hospitals, and other areas of endeavor, as we collectively move Edo State forward, I pray that God will reward your labor of love.I wish you the freedom to dream and to define who you are, and then have the courage and option to stand up always. On a final note, I salute my jewel of inestimable value (credit to Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo), Prof. Pastor (Mrs) Idia Ize-Iyamu for being an outstanding woman, wife, mother, professional, friend and helper.#EachforEqual
