Frontline Edo APC gubernatorial aspirant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Thursday called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to be more decisive in his response to the Covid19 as Edo state officially recorded its 12th case.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who was responding to Wednesday’s State broadcast by Governor Obaseki on the Coronavirus said it fell short of public expectations especially as it affects the locking down of the state.
“We heard the Governor say that he is reluctant to order a lockdown because of the economic situation of the state. With due respect, I want to differ. It is when you are well that you can talk about commerce. It is when you are well that you can talk about trading. I don’t see why anybody will complain or grumble if they are to stay at home at a time like this “.
According to Pastor Ize-Iyamu, Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria along with Abuja, the political capital and even Delta state, one of the highest oil producing States in the country, all of them did not hesitate to shutdown because of the Coronavirus.
“Many businesses have voluntarily closed their offices and relocated home. I can understand essential services still being open. That is obvious. I think the generality of our people should stay at home. Its only when they stay at home that the seriousness of this matter can dawn on people”.
He said even for majority of Edo people the reality is that they cannot get the face masks even if they wanted to get any and for those who cannot even eat, buying a mask is the least of their priorities.
” So I am wondering how the government can be undecided, when it is already clear that we are in danger. I have heard government say that those going out should wear masks. Maybe that is their answer to shutting down, but where are the masks? Are they readily available? Are the masks affordable? “.
Meanwhile Pastor Ize-Iyamu has also called on the state government to listen to the advice of Medical doctors in the state who have called for a shutting down of the states borders like most states have already done.
” I want to appeal to the Governor to be a bit more decisive in handling this matter because we don’t want Edo to become the epicentre of Coronavirus. We don’t want a situation where others have been able to contain it then Edo now becomes a place where the matter has gotten out of hand “.#
