In yet another clear indication that Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state is perfecting his plans to leave the All Progressives Congress following widespread rejection and is plotting to negotiate his way using the planned government distribution of relief materials in light of COVID-19, it was revealed today that the embattled and absent governor has appointed the new PDP Chairman, Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, as the coordinator of the distribution efforts in Ovia South West Local Government Area.

The strange appointment was revealed by the Chairman of Ovia South West Local Council, Destiny Enabulele, in a media interview on ITV Goodmorning show.

According to those privy to the Governor’s plans, the appointment of the New PDP Chairman is the beginning of a series of planned state benefits Godwin Obaseki has awarded to key PDP figures in the state in exchange for a chance to contest for a second term on any platform he decides to contest, after falling out with nearly all the stakeholders in the APC.

The governor has largely failed in his measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in Edo state. The NMA, market women, bus drivers, and other critical stakeholders have all condemned the state government’s poor handling of the situation and inadequate measures.

By politicizing the distribution of the relief items, many of which are repackaged, previously donated items given that Obaseki’s endless political wars have drained the state’s treasury, the exercise appears doomed to fail.
