News has filtered in, to the effect that Riverine Communities of Edo state is being militarized.

Accusing fingers have been pointed at the Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike who is also chairman of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Campaign Committee for the fast approaching Edo state governorship election.

This may not be the first time Wike would be interfering in Edo politics.
In 2016, a similar incident occurred with the Rivers governor mobilizing and militarizing the areas.

But, for this Governorship election, sources disclosed that in the last few weeks Wike has sent arms and ammunition to the militants in Gelegele, Ekehuan, Iboro, Ifunama, Ikoro and other Ijaw communities for the purpose of unleashing mayhem.

According to credible sources, people in the communities are no more sleeping with their eyes closed awaiting possible surprise attacks being plotted by Wike and his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki.

A middle aged man who wants to maintain anonymity averred: “We are all living in fear as Wike has militarized the areas. Now the fear of the unknown is everywhere as Obaseki’s personal ambition is now placed over and above the blood of people in the Riverine Communities.

“We are all in a state of fear and trepidation. The boys are even brandishing dangerous weapons and boasting that the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) will be intimidated,” complained a man who simply gave his name as Joseph.

A mother of two who condemned the activities of Wike equally fumed,: “The personal ambition of Governor Obaseki is now worth more than the blood of innocent citizens of our communities.

“Edo is not Rivers, Wike should stay away because he is not worth interfering in the activities of our communities,” she concluded.
