All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said that if elected, his government will hold regular town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders as a way of bringing government closer to the people.

The APC candidate was throwing light on, ‘Leadership by example”, in his manifesto, the Simple Agenda and said that regular quarterly briefing on government activities by relevant heads of Ministries, departments and Agencies, MDAs will also be held.

Promising to run an inclusive and continuous consultative government, “by listening to public opinions, views and suggestions”, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said, his government will use “Edo Policy Exchange” and the Town Hall meetings to engage, consult and elicit innovative ideas so as to move Edo State forward.

He also spoke of running a gender friendly government to promote gender equality and women’s rights by engendering Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, agenda that is capable of eradicating gender-based violence.

He said the coming APC government in Edo will, “promote the participation and leadership of women in all aspects of decision-making and advancing their economic justice”, and also, “create cooperatives across the state, which will give loans to market women and farmers so as to increase productivity”.

“There will be investment in long-term social and cultural change, including the engagement of faith leaders and faith-based organizations, and ensuring that support is available to NGOs working to tackle discriminatory social norms”

On local government councils, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said, “We will also give freedom to Local Government Councils to function in accordance with their mandates and protect local government council chairmen from executive intimidation, constant harassment and unwarranted removal”.

He added that we, ” intend to ensure strict supervision of council resources and expenditure. We shall however encourage financial autonomy of the local government councils and create Local Government Development Areas to fast track the development of these areas”.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate has appreciated, “the invaluable role of our traditional institutions ably led by Our Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin”, and said, ” we intend to strengthen their offices while also ensuring improvement in their welfare”.

He said that since he is the flag bearer of the party, on which platform he will win the election and form the government , “We shall be receptive to the yearnings of party members who differ in opinion and respect the party hierarchy and its leaders”.
