The inhabitants of Idinwe in Ewatto, Esan southeast local government area of Edo state are now homeless and counting their losses after they were attacked by persons from a neighbouring community.
The attack on Wednesday night led to the displacement of over 40 residents of Idinwe community while their properties were either vandalized or set ablaze.
Contacted the eldest man in Idinwe, Mr Itepu Igbakenren speaking through his daughter, confirmed the incident.
He said, “We are now living in the forest at the mercy of herdsmen. The boys drove us away from our homes and said until I produce the killer of Ayere, they will not allow us to go back to our houses”.
He said the bloody attack by Idumuje residents also led to the destruction of motor bikes and household appliances like TV and cooking utensils in Idinwe.
He said it followed allegations by youths of Idumunje community that last week’s murder of one Ayere, a community dweller was carried out by a resident of Idinwe.
With this provocation he said that youths of Idumuje armed with guns and machetes on Wednesday night invaded his house and drove away all residents before destroying their properties.
