The traditional ruler Kalasuo of Okomu in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, Beri Apoi III, Okee Ogudumu has denied that the killing of a soldier and seizing of his rifle took place in his community.
In a petition to the Nigerian Army and the Edo State Governor, titled, “Alleged attack on a Soldier and threat to burn down our Communities”, he said the allegation being made against his community was an attempt to give a dog a bad name so that it can be hanged.
The traditional ruler said his petition is in response to a hand written letter signed by one Nigerian Army captain attached to the Okomu Oil Palm PLC, dated 26-11-20 in which the allegation was made.
He said in the letter, the Captain accused his community of killing the soldier and stealing his weapon and threatened to burn down Okomu, “if the missing weapon and the culprits allegedly responsible for the misdemeanor are not produced”.
The ruler observed that as a retired Assistant Inspector of Police ,ASP, his subjects and himself are peace loving and law abiding and so cannot be party to the allegation.
