France has closed its borders with the UK to prevent the spread into its territory of a new strain of the corona virus, believed to be circulating there.

The closure for an initial 48-hours means that lorries with goods cannot get access through the English channel by boat.
It also means that the rail service that links Britain with the rest of mainland Europe has now been suspended.
The French decision is coming on the heels of the ban placed on air travels to and from the UK by many countries including France.
UK authorities have announced a new strain of the virus and say its transmission is faster compared with existing strains.
They say it is seventy per cent more transmissible and is driving the spread of new infections in many parts of the country.
