Apparently moved to prevent crisis arising from
the constitution of the party’s Caretaker Committees, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has urged the local government Caretaker Committee Chairmen appointed under the party to comply with the directive of the National leadership of the party to the effect that all former Executives of the APC who are still members of the party should be returned as Caretaker Committee Chairmen and members in their respective local governments and Wards.
Oshiomhole, gave the charge Sunday during the Edo North APC Caucus meeting held at his country home, Iyamho, a community near Auchi while reacting to objections by leaders from different local governments across the Senatorial district.
He said, there was need to rebuild the confidence and mutual trust amongst the leaders and members of the party.
The former Edo governor stressed the need for proper consultations before any decision is taken to avoid acrimony in the party.
He stressed the need for leaders to develop the spirit of give and take to succeed.
Comrade Oshiomhole, called on them to teach the younger ones the unwritten code of conduct on how leaders should relate with their followers.
He urged them not to compromise their principles as leaders as there is only one price to pay and called on them not to commit themselves to any Aspirant.
The former National Chairman, said, it was better for a man to keep his honour and lose his position than losing his honour and keeping his position.
He called on elected officials to know that they are responsible and accountable to the people and appealed to them to tolerate the essences of the younger generation.
On the forthcoming APC membership registration/ revalidation exercise, Comrade Oshiomhole,urged the party members to be vigilant during the exercise and ensure that mercenaries were not hired to cause problems for the party.
He said, there was need for regular meetings of the party to ascertain the level of progress that has been made in the party.
In his brief remarks, the Caretaker Committee deputy State Chairman of the party, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, spoke on the need to obey the party constitution to ensure there is discipline in the party.
Emperor Tenebe, called on local government Chairmen of the party to obey the National and state leaderships of the party’s directive on the constitution of the caretaker committees to promote unity and oneness in the party.
In his speech, the deputy leader in the House of Representatives, Rt.Hon.Peter Akpatason, expressed appreciation to the National Chairman and called for unity and cooperation among the leadership to achieve progress in the party.
In his submission, the Senatorial Chairman of the party,Chief Barr.S.S.Mayaki, thanked the leadership of the party and the former National Chairman for organizing the meeting to discuss the way forward in the party.
The meeting had in attendance the chairman of Basic Education Committee in the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Engr.Abubakar Momoh, a former member of House of Representatives, members of the State House of Assembly from Edo North amongst others.
